چکیده

A theory is presented for describing the effect on the transverse NMR relaxation rate of microscopic spatial inhomogeneities in the static magnetic field. The theory applies when the inhomogeneities are weak in magnitude and the nuclear spins diffuse a significant distance in comparison with a length scale characterizing the inhomogeneities. It is shown that the relaxation rate is determined by a temporal correlation function and depends quadratically on the magnitude of the inhomogeneities. For the case of unrestricted diffusion, a simple algebraic approximation for the temporal correlation function is derived. The theory is illustrated by applying it to a model of randomly distributed magnetized spheres. The theory is also used to fit experimental data for the dependence of the relaxation rate on the interecho time for a Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill pulse sequence. The experimental systems considered are in vitro red blood cell suspensions and samples of human gray matter and rat liver. Magn Reson Med 44:144-156, 2000.

Diffusion-mediated nuclear spin phase decoherence in cylindrically porous materials

In NMR or MRI of complex materials, including biological tissues and porous materials, magnetic susceptibility differences within the material result in local magnetic field inhomogeneities, even if the applied magnetic field is homogeneous. Mobile nuclear spins move though the inhomogeneous field, by translational diffusion and other mechanisms, resulting in decoherence of nuclear spin phase m...

Vol. 9, No. 3 71 NMR J IMAGING

NMR imaging was proven in recent years to be a useful noninvasive technique (1). It yives the 3-dimensional structure of tissues in vivo; and exploits the differences in concentration of substances (usually water) and their relaxation times as a means to discriminate between tissues. Methods of chemical shift-imaging were developed recently (2-6) which utilize the differences in substance conte...

Prediction of Electrofacies Based on Flow Units Using NMR Data and SVM Method: a Case Study in Cheshmeh Khush Field, Southern Iran

The classification of well-log responses into separate flow units for generating local permeability models is often used to predict the spatial distribution of permeability in heterogeneous reservoirs. The present research can be divided into two parts; first, the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) log parameters are employed for developing a relationship between relaxation time and reservoir poro...

Linear Dependency of NMR Relaxation Rates on Shear Modulus in Hydrogels.

It is found that the NMR relaxation rates of diffusants in peptide hydrogels have a linear dependency on the shear modulus of the hydrogels. This finding opens the door for non-invasive and forceless mechanical characterizations of materials and tissues using NMR and MRI.

Nonlinear detection of secondary isotopic chemical shifts in NMR through spin noise

The detection of minor species in the presence of large amounts of similar main components remains a key challenge in analytical chemistry, for instance, to obtain isotopic fingerprints. As an alternative to the classical NMR scheme based on coherent excitation and detection, here we introduce an approach based on spin-noise detection. Chemical shifts and transverse relaxation rates are determi...
